It's not too late for you

(Counselingmn Website)

“My son, please come and sit with me.”

Jacob runs and sits next to his father. He wanted to hear the progress. What was going to happen next and how could he be of any help.

“My son, I love you. I love you very much. If I could do anything to change the situation I would. I never had what you have today. Your mother and I have worked hard to provide you and your siblings. If we could do anything we would, but we can’t. I want you to promise one thing my son.”

“What is it father?”

“Promise me that no matter what I tell you, you will continue to work hard in school. You will work and change your situation. Whatever I tell you should not change your ambitions and goals in life. I want to repeat, no matter who you wanted to be, this should not change anything. You can be better than us, and that is all we want. That is what your mother wants, that is what I want.”

Jacob’s mother who has been listening all this time, starts sobbing. She tries to smile, but fails and starts weeping. Jacob is confused.

“Mom don’t cry. Everything is going to be alright.” He tries to comfort her. She lifts her head up and smiles at him.

“I’m alright my son. Please listen to what your father has to say.”

Jacob turns to his father.

“My son, you remember we went to the hospital last week and we were waiting for the results. They have unfortunately told me that my condition is hereditary. They told us there is nothing more they can do. I’m sorry, but you have inherited my condition, and you are going to be blind in the next 2 months. There is nothing more we can do. All we have now is God. We must pray to him that He guides you and keeps you safe.”

“WHAT??!!! Am I going to have to beg like you on the streets?”

His father pauses as he is shocked by the question.

“No my son. You don’t have to. Nobody has to beg like me. I want you to continue to work harder. I never had the chance to go to school, but you do. Don’t look at where I am right now. You can change your situation and change your life. You will not be limited by your blindness. Your mom, your brothers, your sisters and I will always be here for you, and love you forever. I love you Jacob.”

“I love you too dad.”

Long Way from home

(Photo Source: Common dreams website) Jadim is a refugee. That is what the international organizations call her. The country hosting her is expected to feed her, protect her and make sure she is comfortable until her home country has some amount of peace. She gets ‘aid’ in terms of food, clothes, a blanket and a shelter. She has a right to get them. Moreover she is now pregnant, so she is feeding for two people. She sees people coming in and out, she heard they are called donors. Every time she sees the stream of vehicles she has to ensure her shelter is clean and she puts on a smile. They are the ones responsible for her stay there and they need to feel they are doing something. It also means extra rations that day, so of course she will put on her best smile. Jadim has lived in the camp for 2 years now.  Despite  all the niceties mentioned above, she constantly feels she was better at home, but since she lost her husband and two children to the war, she decid...

Unappreciated Hero

(Photo Source: www.wakatipuchurch.com/wp-content/uploads/Mother-waiting.gif) Kevin was coming home. It was 3 am in the morning. He had just been dropped off by his friends and was staggering to the doorstep. He looked up and saw the lights from the sitting room were on. He tried to wipe himself to look tidy, not like someone who had just spent the better part of the day smoking and drinking. After his futile attempts he gave up and decided he needed to sleep. He unlocked the door using his keys, entered and shut it. He removed his shoes and tried to tiptoe to his room, but he knew it was futile. "Halo Kevin." "Halo Mom." "Long night I see?" "Yes mom, I enjoyed myself." "That is good my son, but I have a question to ask, or rather a favor." "Not again mom. For crying out loud it is 3 am in the morning. Can't we just talk tomorrow?" "No we have to talk now." "Come...
