A meeting at the cemetery

(Uptown Magazine Website)

“Listen, I WANT MY MONEY!!!”

“What do you mean you want your money?”

“Look, I went to check my account and your money has not arrived yet. You promised you would finish the transaction as soon as you got the document.”

“Yes I did. I sent you the money. Go and check it.”

“I have already checked it. I am even checking it on my phone right now. I cannot see any money deposited.”

“You are lying. I sent you the money to the account you gave to me. I don’t know what you are talking about. Look again.”

“You have got to be kidding me. I took a risk and stole that document from my boss and now I have no money in my account. We had a deal.”

“Yes we had a deal and I fulfilled my part, just as you did. Are you trying to get more money from me?”

“No. I am not trying to get more money from you. I want the money you owe me.”

“I don’t owe you money. I already sent what I owe you.”

“This is no longer funny. My colleagues and I are going to lose our jobs thanks to what I did. I wanted to be assured that I will live well after that. Now here you are lying to me that you sent me the money. If that’s the case I might just have to come clean.”

“Go ahead. You think you scare me. You are nothing but a pawn. I already have what I wanted. You have nothing that would link me to your crime.”

“Oh yes I do.”

“What?”

“I have been recording you on my phone. From the beginning of our conversation, until now. I have the records of the money you sent me earlier as well.”

(Silence).

“What do you want?”

“I want my money. That is all.”

“OK, OK. Meet me at the cemetery in one hour.”

“On my way.”

One hour later…

“Well, where is it?”

“Come to my car.”

“No. I don’t want to.”

“Are you scared that I will kill you?”

“Yes I am.”

“I am a man of my word.”

“If I had to blackmail you to get my money, then I don’t think you can use that as an excuse.”

“Touché.”

“So?”

“So what?”

“My money?”

“Oh yes. I will need the recordings you made.”

“I figured as much. However, I want to see my money first.”

“Of course. Take a look. It’s all there.”

“All right. The recordings are on my phone. I will place it down here. Place the money down as well, so that I know you won’t try anything.”

“OK.”

“What do you think you are doing?”

“What does it look like I am doing? I can’t have lose ends. I have come too far for to allow someone as insignificant as you to pull me down.”

“You shot me?”

“You don’t say?”

“Hahahaha.”

“The last thing you do is laugh? Is something funny?”

“Yes, because I made copies of the recordings and I instructed someone to send them to the police. He has been listening to us this whole time on my phone. Hehe …”

“YOU BASTARD!!!”

Long Way from home

(Photo Source: Common dreams website) Jadim is a refugee. That is what the international organizations call her. The country hosting her is expected to feed her, protect her and make sure she is comfortable until her home country has some amount of peace. She gets ‘aid’ in terms of food, clothes, a blanket and a shelter. She has a right to get them. Moreover she is now pregnant, so she is feeding for two people. She sees people coming in and out, she heard they are called donors. Every time she sees the stream of vehicles she has to ensure her shelter is clean and she puts on a smile. They are the ones responsible for her stay there and they need to feel they are doing something. It also means extra rations that day, so of course she will put on her best smile. Jadim has lived in the camp for 2 years now.  Despite  all the niceties mentioned above, she constantly feels she was better at home, but since she lost her husband and two children to the war, she decid...

Unappreciated Hero

(Photo Source: www.wakatipuchurch.com/wp-content/uploads/Mother-waiting.gif) Kevin was coming home. It was 3 am in the morning. He had just been dropped off by his friends and was staggering to the doorstep. He looked up and saw the lights from the sitting room were on. He tried to wipe himself to look tidy, not like someone who had just spent the better part of the day smoking and drinking. After his futile attempts he gave up and decided he needed to sleep. He unlocked the door using his keys, entered and shut it. He removed his shoes and tried to tiptoe to his room, but he knew it was futile. "Halo Kevin." "Halo Mom." "Long night I see?" "Yes mom, I enjoyed myself." "That is good my son, but I have a question to ask, or rather a favor." "Not again mom. For crying out loud it is 3 am in the morning. Can't we just talk tomorrow?" "No we have to talk now." "Come...
