Always Watching

(Michelle Marielle Wright Blog-Post) “Did you see that? Did you see that?” Exclaimed Ivy. “See what?” Asked Chantelle. “That brick was totally falling for my head.” “Yes. I did see it fall. It is the reason why we were trying to run away.” “You didn’t see it change course?” “What are you talking about?” “It was going to fall on my head, but it missed.” “Yes it missed, because we were running.” “Come on Chantelle, you must have seen it?” “Listen Ivy, I am glad and happy we escaped the falling brick unhurt, but I am not following what you are insinuating.” “It was my dad.” “Really? I am sorry to remind you, but your dad died 5 years ago.” “Yes. I know that. I mean my dad is watching over me.” “You mean like Superman?” “Stop being funny. No. More like my guardian angel.” “What makes you say that?” “The falling brick.” “OK, but we were running.” “Last week when I going home some thieves were following me, jus...

Back in my day

“That was so embarrassing. Why did you do that?” “I had to. When I was poor they always laughed at my family. Now, I laugh at them.” “But dad, don’t you think it is immature for you to brag to people because you are rich now? Money is not everything.” “Listen to me, I know you never go hungry and have everything you need, but when I was young I never knew when my next meal would be. I first wore shoes in form two. I became a millionaire at 40. Of course I am going to enjoy my success and rub it on people.” “You are not the richest person in the world dad.” “I know. Right now though, I am richer than all my relatives combined.” “Is that the reason you are always going to the slums every weekend?” “Yes. I have to remind myself of where I came from, and why I should never return there. I also rub it in the noses of those people who said I would never amount to anything.” “I think what you are doing is wrong dad. Please stop concentrating on showing off....

I am not crazy

(Borderline Personality Treatment Website) Martin is back home. He stands outside the door. He thinks about what he just heard. He is angry. He is sad. He is confused. He opens the door and meets Sally who has been waiting for him. “So how did it go?” She asks. “Well, they told me I was crazy. Me? Crazy? How? Why? When? Where? As in, we are Africans, we cannot be going around and telling people that I am crazy. The doctor had the nerve to ask me to stay at the hospital, so that they can treat me. What absolute nonsense.” He begins to break down, “I am not crazy. I am not mad. Why would they tell me that? Yes, I am not normal, but I am not crazy. It is so unfair.” Their son, Isaac, comes into the room. “Dad, are you OK?” “Of course I am OK. Why would you ask that? Do you think I am crazy too?” Sally cuts in, “Martin please calm down.” “OK, OK. Leave me alone.” He pauses for a bit. “I’m sorry. Please forgive me. I just can’t believe I was going to be adm...

The Acting Industry in Kenya

(North Texas Performing Arts Website) The entertainment industry in Kenya has been growing over the past few years. The PwC valued Kenya’s entertainment and media industry at United States Dollars (USD) 1.8 billion in 2014 (PwC, 2016) . This was a 13.3 percent rise from 2013 and it is expected to surpass the USD 3.3 billion mark in 2019. The internet was the biggest contributor followed by the television and the radio (PwC), 2016) . The Actors.co.ke website added that the film industry was a key growth industry that had the power to spur economic growth and support Kenya’s vision 2030 through investment and employment (Actors.co.ke, 2012) . How about a sandwich Mr. Lion?

1.30 pm. The sun was shining (because it wasn’t raining. Duh!). This day the family had decided to go for a game drive at the Nairobi National Park. It was Easter, the family were always out and about. They had stopped the car and their phones were clicking away at the brown cat resting in the shade (According to nature documentaries, most wild animals rest in the afternoon when the sun is hot, and hunt in the evening.) Everyone was excited. Getting pictures of a lion in the wild is a very rare spectacle. Go and see if it is possible, then be happy you had the opportunity to see a lion in the wild. Better for you if there is a hunt and fresh meat is on the menu. This Easter there might have been better meat for the lion, one on two legs. “I hope you guys are enjoying yourselves?” Asked the man of the house. “Yes, dad. It is so great.” Picture the sarcasm of a 17 year old boy chatting with people online about the most boring day of his life. There was some party going do...
